The heart as a battleground

Can love take away the heart?
Squeeze it ,obliterate it and crush it apart?
Can the heart refuse its calling and be numb,
Completely denying its purpose to love?

To become utterly bitter and cruel,
To feel the need to give up,
Why is the heart afraid,
Why is it still frightened by the bullets of love?
