We were happy once, you and I
First time love that I could find
With self-pride and confidence to me you gave
Your loving attention I did crave
We were happy once
But that was before I changed
You left me emotionally drained
You bailed out of a crashing plane
My life is a mess, confidence lost
Now I'm left to carry this cross
Without pride. Without shame
Without a purpose I uselessly aim
Now I can no longer feel
Part of me I let you steal
There is no pain only guilt
The only pride I have is in the walls I've built
We were happy once, when it felt right
The truth hurts like a bright light
The light, it frights, while the dark sooths
It hides your fears. It hides your tears
What else can I lose?
Nothing's left, so it appears
There is only one thing that keeps me from hating you
Haunting memories of sunny days and smiles
Quietly going insane I smile to myself...
We were happy once
