Save my life. (My first story thing.)

by Just me

She felt like a puppy that had been abandoned and was forced to live on the streets, with no one to love her or hold her or keep her safe. She felt like that since her love left her. She only wanted to make him happy, and it hurt her so much that she couldn't even remember the sound of his laugh...

One day, she couldn't take it anymore. She ran outside to her car and just drove. She drove to the bridge. The water beneath the bridge was moving fast and violently with the current. She took a deep breath and was ready to jump, when suddenly she heard something...it was a voice. It was HIS voice. It echoed in her head.

He said, "Don't do it. Please, don't do it." She stopped and tried to exhale, but she couldn't. She was confused...he wouldn't care. "You left me...you don't care about me anymore," she shouted back at her love's voice. "That's not true. I never left you," he said softly, "I was always here, you were just blinded by the hate that you felt for me."

She was in awe. "I don't hate you...never!" she said to his voice, anger clear in her own. But then she thought about it, she did hate him. She hated him for leaving her because he promised that he never would. He had told her that he loved her, but he just took it back by leaving her...and that hurt more than anything.

"You lied to me!" she screamed, her voice cracked...she was crying now. "I would never lie to you," he promised, as he tried to reason with her. "But...you did. You said that you loved me and then you left me," she said through broken sobs. "I'm sorry, I had to leave you. You know that if I had it my way then we'd be together right now...I'd be there holding your hand and wiping away your tears," he said to her.

"You did leave me, you just said it yourself..." she said, but she sounded as if she wanted to believe that what he told her was true. "I only left you physically, but I've been there emotionally since the day that you thought I left you. I've always been with you, and I'll always be with you because I love you. And that's a promise that I will never break," he whispered.

She was defeated. She knew from the sound of his voice that he was telling the truth. "I love you..." she said as she gave in. "I love you, too," he replied, "and I'm sorry that I had to leave without telling you goodbye." She thought about it for a moment, and realized that it didn't matter anymore. It didn't matter because she didn't want to be mad at him, she didn't want to think about how she didn't get her last goodbye.

"It's okay," she said thoughtfully, "I guess it doesn't really matter now. It just feels so good to hear you say it again after so long." And she meant every word that she said. "That's good, at least you're not angry with me. I love you and miss you so much. Just know that I will be with you always. I hope that you can just forgive me for leaving you..." he explained.

"I forgive you. I miss you. I love you." she said back to him in one breath. "Now please step off of that ledge and get back into your car and drive home safely. I love you. Please, don't dwell on the past. I won't be mad if you fall in love again. I just want you to be happy," he begged.

"Never!" she shouted. She was scared because his voice was fading. "It's okay, I promise..." he said in a voice that sounded far away. "I love you! Please don't leave me again!" she shouted, desperate for his voice. "I love you, too. But now I have to go," he said as his last farewell. "No! No! Don't go!" she shouted...but she knew that he was gone. She knew that her delusions were over.

She had gotten her last goodbye, her closure...but she still missed him and loved him completely. That sad, lonely, abandoned little girl took a deep breath, closed her eyes...and jumped.
