by Kailan Dalziel
Was it a dream?
I think perhaps it was.
Reality was never so perfect.
Nature never crafted skin so soft.
Nor breath so sweet.
Nor an ache that felt so good.
With every breath,
With every hearts beat
I feared the spell would break.
Hands sliding gently over silk canvas.
Slowly tracing the outlines of a masterpiece.
A work of art.
Priceless and irreplaceable.
Sought after by many
Held by so few.
Yet there I was.
Surely it was a dream?
Only in imagination could experience so mimic fantasy.
Only in fantasy could touch feel so electric,
Could an embrace suffuse such satisfaction.
Only in my dreams have I ever held you before.
I pray this time was no dream.
BUT, if dream it be
Let me dream again.
Allow me to climb
To such dizzying heights of elation
That my breath comes in gasps
From the thinness of the air.
So high
That the world goes dim
As all else fades,
And I'm left
With you the only thing in focus.
The warmth of your smile and the light of your eyes
The only thing holding me anchored to this world.
Is it a dream?
