Kisses and Swollen Eyes

As she lay there bleeding,
She wondered how she let things get this far,
It started out so innocently,
With hugs and kisses on the cheek,
Then it started to go wrong.

Like the time she was talking to her friend,
And he thought they were talking about him,
So he dragged her away,
Pulling her roughly by the arm,
And hit her across the face until she feinted.

When she woke up she sat staring at him,
Tears welling in her swollen eyes,
And he ran and hugged her and said he loved her,
That he'd never do it again,
And she sobbed foe hours because she knew he was lyeing.

This time she'd just been talking to a guy from class,
And he started shouting at her,
Yelling that she was going to leave,
That if she did he'd kill her then himself,
And she stood there crying.

As she turned her back to leave,
He pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed her,
Right in the back, then he plunged it through his heart,
And now she looks at his cold, dead face,
And thinks of the way things used to be, and she closes her eyes.
