Pleading Insanity

by Chelsey

If I told you a secret, how well could you keep it?
I can't trust a diary. Those pages could potentially
get thrown away and what I hold is not garbage.
I can't rely on prayers. They take too long
to get answered and I need a response.

If it's too intense to handle, what will you do?
Burden yourself with it until you die? Run away?
Or release it to the public?

Think hard because what I'm going to do
is plead insanity.

I've lost it.
Unbelievably, undeniably, irresponsibly,
lost it.

The weight of my
happiness lays awake on your shoulders .
The sound of butterflies fluttering is caused
by the flirtation in your laughter.
The sight of love glows off your cheekbones
and radiates back unto mine.
I once called you my sanity.

Now, you've turned into my reason
to admittedly, openly, confess to being guilty.
You make me want to run a marathon across
an ocean, up a mountain, through the sands
of the Sahara desert.

Only if I can find you there.

You inspire me to construct a bridge, pave a road,
build a plane. You motivate me to die to myself,
leave this town, ignore the population.

Only if it will get me to you.

I have honestly, truthfully, 100%
surrendered to the fact that I am no more
a human being with controlled emotions.

Chain me to a desk that has held
a thousand prisoners. Lock me behind bars
that has housed a thousand inmates.
Remove me from the streets, because my sweet...
I have gone overly, dramatically, confidently
crazy for you.
