Apple

by Lost One

Fallen like an apple
In an orchard in the fall
Within easy reach
But she does not heed my call

She reaches for the fruit
That are still upon the tree
They glisten in the morning sun
So she does not notice me

The others play hard to get
But I have thrown all in
She collects another bushel
But I don't make it in the bin

First I begin to wither
Then I start to rot
Ironically next to a patch
Of blue forget-me-not

At least I take solace in
My pain helping others grow
Showing them the path to peace
That I will never know
