Mother in-laws Visit

by Milly Hayward

My mother in law is visiting
Tomorrow just at three
I cannot sleep for worrying
It is a trial for me

I dust and clean and do my best
To make my home look great
But I will always fail the test
It is my endless fate

She'll walk around with finger up
And find a speck of dust
Then criticise a broken cup
And even find some rust

To her I am the sneaky crook
Who stole her son away
Caught him with my girlie hook
I must be made to pay

It is now her life's mission
To prove me a faulty wife
By pointing out my every fault
And causing endless strife

My face is smiling as she arrives
There's nothing for me to say
I go and hide the kitchen knives
Well it's only for one day
