Hold you in my heart when we're apart

Often my horrific past
returns to haunt me
causing my mind to
turn a shade of black,
my eyes show anguish
even though I smile
and joke with others -
no one notices my woes
apart from you but that's
because our hearts
are connected by
invisible string which
binds us both together
whether near or far
for we hold each other
close in our hearts.
