By The Shore

I know you and you knew me,
we used to live down by the sea,
in distant times, in days before,
but now those days are here no more.
Upon the shore and on the sand,
in other lands, now here I stand
alone and by the spiteful waves
where your life breaks and my heart craves
a way to be with you once more -
I've cried and begged and I've implored -
a person who has gone from me
to join me here down by the sea.
But she has gone and will not hear
and so my tears have stained the years;
these years I've stood and waited long,
but she has flown - our love is gone.
You hear me cry but come no more -

we used to live upon the shore.
