Loved And Tried

by Ben Pickard

Did mountains break or rivers dry
That day I came to call?
Did Heaven move or angels sigh,
And did the rain clouds fall?
If no, then know we are not 'right' -
More moth than butterfly;
And understand our fruitless plight -
The truth behind the lie.
I never meant to stoke the flame
And give you hope untrue,
But sometimes sun is doused by rain
And tarnish mars the blue.

No mountain broke, or river dried
That day I came to call,
But in due course and by and by
You'll navigate this squall.
