A Look of Centuries
by Bill Turner
I have paid my dues
Drank with gentlemen and scholars
Sung many a song most of them blues
Worked hard chasing the dollars
Spent my time on the street
Ran with a rough crowd
Not the one for your parents to meet
Lived my life a little too loud
I would always blow like the breeze
No one would ever tie me down
Talking and living as I please
Wearing my forever frown
A subtle smile and sparkle from your eye
A look that spoke centuries to me
No longer will my heart cry
As I gaze with wonder upon thee
You have shown me a better way
Like a cat I have yet another life
I again smile for you today
Sensing there will be no more strife
