The Night He Proposed

by Melinda

A tear slides down my cheek
My breath I can't catch as I look at you
My knees shake and I feel so weak
My head's spinning with so many thoughts
Here you are, down on bended knee
A little velvet box in the palm of your hand
A glittering diamond ring you hold for me to see
Your eyes locked on mine
It seems like eternity before you say,
"My love, will you marry me?"
I've waited so long for this day
And now it's finally here
I want to be with you for life
I can't begin to say how much I love you
"Of course I will be your wife!"
I whisper with tears of joy in my eyes
You kiss me gently on the lips
Telling me you love me more than life
I have never before felt like this
You are my life, the reason why I live
I can't wait to wake up each morning next to you
Starting each day with your gentle kisses and hugs
Our nights ending with just us two
Wrapped in each other's arms, falling asleep
I couldn't have imagined a more perfect night
Just the two of us sitting here by the lake
A cool and gentle breeze, the stars so bright
A night I will remember forever
This is the night our future will start
Our love will go on forever
I promise you will always own my heart
My love for you could never, ever end!
